Liesel has gone along for school outreach with visiting teams. She really enjoys going and is very disappointed when she has to stay home to do her own schoolwork. This is her experience.

What is your favorite part of the day when you go on school outreach with a team?

I like to play with the kids.

Can you describe what the schools look like?

They’re very dirty, and they’re always very colorful, like yellow or red. One of the schools had handprints on the walls.

How do you get to the school?

I get up a little earlier in the morning, and Daddy brings me to the hospital, where I hop in the red truck, and Uncle Ryan or Uncle David drives us there. The roads are pretty bumpy, some schools are far away, some are close. There are usually 3 to 4 nurses and a whole team in that one truck.

How do the kids react when they see you and the team?

They are excited. They are happy and they run to us.

What activities do you do with the children at the school?

We do crafts and stuff, things about Jesus.

Do you learn anything new from the students or the team during those days?

I get to listen to Spanish and Kʼicheʼ. (pronounced: kee-CHAY )

How does it feel to help out and be a part of that?

     It feels good, it’s fun.

How do you think the outreach benefits the students you work with?

It helps them learn about Jesus. One of the kids had a very mean dad, hopefully we bring them hope.
