Another Chance

“I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law? Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ. ”

Galatians 3:5

There are days that seem to suck the life out of us, and some days that give back, just a little. There are also days that seem to leech and drain the life out of us for days into the future. Sometimes, many times, I am so focused on surviving and keeping my family fed or clothed, that I forget. I forget the gifts that sit on my doorstep. The sun that peeks through after weeks of clouds and seems to kiss my soul as it passes.

An inquisitive visitor once asked, lightheartedly, if I, “ever tire of the view”?

The view, what view? When I look out the window, I see how dirty the glass is. When I walk out the door, I notice the bikes and scooters scattered everywhere and calling cards left by the rogue chickens that keep stealing my sweet potatoes. I notice the weather more when I have laundry out on the line to dry, or when someone needs to fly in or out.

One thing that continues to work its way past the noise is the way a stranger can walk onto the mission base and then a week later, leave physically, but a piece of them lingers behind.  When they return a year later, they act as though they are completed again. It's not something you can see with your eyes, but through their eyes.

We have hosted 20 groups this year with a few more before the year’s end. Our team of long term resident volunteers has hosted just over 130 people. Our prayer is that these people would return back to their families and lives with a new perspective. In hopes that their trip would help them appreciate “the view” from where they live.
